Chore Not Showing for Your Child? What to Check in Kroni
By Erik Nilsen · Kroni7 min read
Short answer: It may not be a fault. A chore can be hidden because it doesn't apply to this profile, this date or this turn. It may also be set to inactive, fall on a day off, or already be marked done. The parent view shows the whole chore. Your child's daily list only shows what applies to that child today.
Work through the checks below in order. Don't delete anything or create anything new while you look. A copy of the chore can lead to double entries and make it harder to see what actually happened.
Why parents and kids see different things
When you open a chore as a parent, you see the setup itself: who it's assigned to, when it applies and whether it's active. Your child's daily list is a filter on top of that setup. A chore that runs every Tuesday, only when it's Emma's turn, won't show up for Emma on a Wednesday. It also won't show up on a Tuesday when her brother has the turn.
In Kroni, scheduling can hide chores by date, assignment, turn or inactive status. That's by design. It can still look like a bug when you're standing in the kitchen and your child says, "It's not there."
Check 1: The right child and the right profile
Start with the simplest thing. Many families use one shared device, so it's easy to end up in the wrong profile.
- Which profile is open on your child's device? Look at the name shown at the top or in the profile picker.
- Who is the chore assigned to? Open the chore in the parent view and read which children are listed.
- Do you have two kids with similar names or nicknames? That makes it easy to pick the wrong profile when setting up the chore.
If the chore is assigned to another child, just fix the assignment on the existing chore.
Check 2: Date, turn, day off and active status
Read the chore's schedule in the parent view and compare it with today's date.
| What you see | Possible reason | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| The chore runs on certain weekdays | Today isn't one of them | Check which days are selected |
| The chore rotates between kids | It's another child's turn | See who has the turn now |
| Your child has a day off | The exception hides the chore today | Check the day off is on the right date |
| The chore is flexible over a period | Today's completion or the period's quota may already be used | Check pending and approved completions in the correct period |
| The chore isn't active | Inactive chores don't show for the child | Check the chore's status |
| Your child already marked it done | It's waiting for approval or is complete | Look among pending or completed chores |
| It's a one-off chore with a future date | It won't appear until that date | Check the chore's date |
The point about marking done matters. If your child has checked it off and the chore is waiting for your approval, it can look "gone" from their side. It isn't lost. It's waiting for you.
Check 3: Did the list actually load?
If everything in the setup looks right, the list may not have loaded properly. Requests can fail on a weak connection, for example at a vacation cabin, in a basement, or when mobile data is turned off for the app.
- Do you see a loading or error message on screen? Use the retry option if one appears.
- Close the app completely and open it again.
- Check that the device is online. Try Wi-Fi instead of mobile data, or the other way around.
- Check whether other chores for the same child appear. If the whole list is missing and a loading error is shown, check the connection. An empty list alone can also mean that no chores apply to this profile today.
Don't count on a chore being marked done without a connection. Wait until the list has loaded before your child checks it off.
Stop here: don't create a duplicate yet
Before you do anything else, pause. Don't delete the child, don't create a new family and don't set the chore up again. The chore may already be marked done or approved, and then you'd have two entries for the same job. If you've found the cause, fix the existing chore instead. If you haven't, keep the details for a message to support.
Filled-in example: the Berg family (fictional)
Lily (10) says "Empty the dishwasher" isn't on her list on Thursday. Her mom can see the chore just fine.
| Check | Finding |
|---|---|
| Profile on the shared tablet | Lily's profile, correct |
| Assigned to | Lily and Jonas, rotating |
| Date | The chore runs Mon–Fri |
| Turn | It's Jonas's turn today |
| Day off | None |
| Active | Yes |
| Already done? | No |
| List loaded? | Yes, other chores appear |
| Conclusion | The chore correctly shows for Jonas. No change needed. |
Mom explains to Lily that it's Jonas's turn today. Nothing was deleted or copied.
Copyable checklist
Copy this and fill it in when a chore is missing.
Missing chore: ______________________
Child: ______________________ Date: ______________
- The right profile is open on the child's device
- The chore is assigned to this child
- Today's date matches the schedule or period
- It's this child's turn (if the chore rotates)
- The child doesn't have a day off today
- The chore is active
- A one-off chore's date has arrived
- The chore isn't already marked done or waiting for approval
- The list has loaded (other chores appear, no error message)
- The app has been closed and reopened, and the connection checked
Cause found: ______________________
STOP: Don't create a duplicate until every item above is checked.
If it still doesn't add up: describe it to support
Write a short, specific description. Include what helps with troubleshooting and leave out personal details.
Support message template:
- What I expected: The chore "______" should show for my child today.
- What happens: It shows in the parent view but not in my child's daily list.
- Setup: repeats ______, rotating yes/no, active yes/no.
- When it started: ______
- Device and app: device type, operating system and app version if you can find it.
- Error message on screen: ______ (copy the text).
- What I've checked: (paste the checklist).
Don't send the pairing code, passwords or your child's full name. A first name or "child 1" is enough.
A note on expectations at home
Once the chore is back where it belongs, it's worth checking that it still suits your child. The overview What should kids be able to do at home? A complete list by age can offer ideas, but you know your child best. If the app is unavailable for a while, the chore can still get done. Offline Activities for Kids: 5 Tips for When the Apps Are Down has suggestions for days like that.
Also remember that coins and balances in Kroni are virtual. If you've agreed to swap them for real allowance, you handle that yourselves, outside the app. A chore that's missing for a day doesn't move any real money.
Frequently asked questions
- Why can I see the chore as a parent but my child can't?
- The parent view shows the full setup. Your child's daily list only shows what applies to that child today, so assignment, date, turn, a day off or inactive status can hide the chore for a valid reason.
- Should I create the chore again if it doesn't show up?
- Not right away. The chore may already be marked done or waiting for approval. Go through the checklist and fix the existing chore instead, so you avoid double entries.
- What should I include when I contact support?
- Describe what you expected, what happens, and how the chore is set up. Add the device, app version and any error message. Don't send the pairing code, passwords or your child's full name.
