Kroni

Joon alternative with allowance: Kroni and Joon compared

Joon turns chores into a virtual pet game and has no allowance tracking. Kroni pairs chores with allowance and real-world rewards your family picks.

Updated November 2, 2026. We make Kroni. The facts about Joon come from Joon's own website and its App Store listing, read on November 2, 2026, with links to each source. We have not tested Joon ourselves.

Short answer: a pet game, or chores tied to allowance

Joon turns everyday tasks into a video game for kids aged 6 to 12. Your child picks a virtual pet, which Joon calls a Doter, and earns coins for the tasks a parent approves. The coins feed and care for the pet and move the game forward. Kroni has no game. Your child earns virtual dollars or points for chores, and your family decides the rewards.

If you are looking for a Joon alternative where chores connect to allowance and to rewards in real life, that is what Kroni is built for.

What Joon does that Kroni doesn't

  • A game. Your child cares for a virtual pet and progresses in the game when tasks are approved. Kroni has no game.
  • Its own apps on more devices. Joon says it also runs on Amazon Fire tablets and Chromebooks. Kroni has no app of its own there, but on a Chromebook you can use Kroni in the browser.
  • Suggested tasks by focus area. You pick a few areas, and Joon suggests a short list of tasks.

How Kroni works

  • Allowance and extra jobs. Schedule a fixed allowance, leave everyday chores unpaid, or add paid extra jobs.
  • Dollars or points. Kroni never moves real money. For each child you pick dollars, another currency, or points, stars or stickers.
  • Rewards you decide. Screen time, a trip to the movies or something you buy together outside the app. Kids can also wish for rewards.
  • One chore at a time. Focus mode shows your child a single chore with up to eight short steps, and a countdown from 1 to 120 minutes if you like. With Only what is due now, your child sees only the chores for this time of day, and if they get stuck, there is an I need help button.
  • Read aloud. Kroni can read the chore and its steps out loud in the voice built into your child's device.
  • Approval where you want it. You choose which chores an adult approves, and whether your child sends a photo.
  • Both parents included. Adults in the same family see the same record, and either of you can approve.

The free plan covers one child and five active chores. New families with one child get 14 days of Kroni Family free, with no card.

Routines for kids with ADHD

Joon describes itself on the App Store as an app for kids with ADHD. Kroni is not a treatment, and we make no promises about symptoms. Which Kroni features can make a routine easier to follow is in routines for kids with ADHD or autism.

When Joon may fit better

  • Your child is motivated by a game, and allowance is not part of your agreement at home.
  • You want an app of its own on an Amazon Fire tablet or a Chromebook. On a Chromebook, Kroni runs in the browser.

When Kroni may fit better

  • Chores should connect to allowance or to rewards in real life.
  • You want chores and rewards without a game around them.
  • Your family speaks Norwegian, Swedish or Danish at home.
  • Siblings share one tablet. Kroni then opens on an overview of how many chores each child has left, see a digital chore chart on the family tablet.

Switching from Joon

  1. Start small. Kroni can't import tasks from Joon. Pick two or three chores your child knows well.
  2. Decide what a chore is worth. Dollars, points or nothing. Not every chore needs a price.
  3. Agree on one reward together. Ideally something that replaces what your child liked about the game.
  4. Talk after a week. Adjust what isn't working.
  5. If you pay for Joon Premium, remember to cancel it.
