Trust and privacy: what Kroni knows about your child

No email or account for your child, pairing with a code and photo proof that gets deleted. What Kroni keeps about your child, and where, linked to our policy.

This page sums up what Kroni knows about your child, what it doesn't, and where the data is kept. It promises nothing new. Each point restates our privacy policy, which is the text that applies, and links the section it comes from.

Your child has no email address and no account

You create your child's profile with a first name or nickname and an avatar from a fixed set. A birth year is optional, and it is only the year, never the date. A four-digit PIN is optional too, and it is stored only as a one-way hash. We do not store profile pictures your child uploads (section 02).

We do not collect your child's last name, full date of birth, email address, phone number or voice data (section 02). Your child does not create an account. The account, and everything that needs managing, stays with you as the parent (section 12).

Your child joins the family with a code

Your child's device joins the family with a six-digit code you give them. Your child enters no personal data beyond what you have already filled in (section 03).

Photo proof is deleted once a grown-up decides

Photo proof is off by default. You turn it on one chore at a time, and then your child can take a picture of the tidy room or the emptied dishwasher (section 02).

  • The photo is uploaded over an encrypted connection and stored encrypted in the EU.
  • It is deleted as soon as a grown-up approves or declines the chore.
  • Otherwise it is deleted within a window you choose, from 1 hour to 7 days after the photo was first opened. A photo that is never opened is deleted after 7 days at the latest (section 06).
  • The photos are never shared and are used for nothing except letting you see that the chore is done.

Kroni does not collect your child's location

Kroni does not collect your child's location (section 02).

Usage data from your child is not tied to their name

The app sends usage and crash reports, so we can keep it stable and see how features are used overall. From your child's side, they are never tied to your child's name or contact details. Kroni does not track children (section 02).

We do not sell personal data to third parties (section 05).

Your child is told what the grown-ups see

On their Profile, your child has a card called "What your grown-ups can see". It says that the grown-ups in the family can see their chores and when they do them, their money, their goals and wishes, and the chores they suggest. It also says that photos are deleted once a grown-up has said yes or no, and that Kroni does not see where they are. If you have turned on Read aloud for your child, the card can be read out loud.

Where the data is kept

  • The core data is on servers in Finland, inside the EU/EEA, and does not leave the EEA in normal operation. That covers child profiles, chores, completions and balances (section 08).
  • Photo proof is stored in France, and usage and crash data in the EU (section 08).
  • Some of our processors, especially those for sign-in and subscriptions, are based in the US. Those transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (section 08).

No real money moves through Kroni (section 01). The balance is virtual, and your family decides what it is worth.

Deletion, access and a copy

If you delete the family account, all personal data about you and your children is deleted within 30 days. The exceptions are accounting records, kept for 5 years, and what we need as evidence for legal claims (section 06).

You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, and for a copy of it. Email support@kroni.no and we reply within 30 days (section 10).
