Kroni

Goally alternative without a dedicated tablet: Kroni compared

Goally is a kids' tablet with routines and learning apps. Kroni is a chore and allowance app for the phones and tablets your family already has.

Updated November 2, 2026. We make Kroni. The facts about Goally come from Goally's own pricing page and FAQ, read on November 2, 2026, with links to each source. We have not tested Goally ourselves.

Short answer: a dedicated tablet, or an app on the devices you have

Goally sells a kids' tablet, the Daily Skills System, listed for ages 2 to 8. It comes with ready-made routines, learning apps, video classes and a talker app, and you manage it from a parent app on your phone. Goally's FAQ says it is phasing out support for Goally as an app on tablets that are not Goally's own.

Kroni has no device of its own. It runs on iPhone, iPad, Android and in a web browser, and it is built around chores, allowance and rewards. If you want a Goally alternative that works on the phone or tablet you already own, that is the difference that matters most.

What Goally does that Kroni doesn't

  • A device made for it. The Goally tablet has no web browser, and the parent decides which apps are open and when.
  • Learning and video. Learning apps, video classes on everyday skills and calm videos come with it.
  • A talker. An AAC talker app is included with the Daily Skills System.
  • Coaching. Goally lists free one-on-one coaching calls and a parent support group.

How Kroni works

  • On the devices you have. A paired phone or tablet for your child, a tablet the family shares, or a web browser.
  • One chore at a time. Focus mode shows a single chore with up to eight short steps you write, and a countdown from 1 to 120 minutes if you like.
  • Read aloud. Kroni can read the chore and its steps out loud in the voice built into your child's device.
  • A time of day. Morning chores show first, then midday and evening. With Only what is due now, your child sees only the chores for this time of day.
  • Allowance and extra jobs. Schedule a fixed allowance, leave everyday chores unpaid, or add paid extra jobs. Kroni never moves real money.
  • Rewards you decide. Time, like "20 minutes of Lego", gets a countdown from 5 minutes to 8 hours. Kids can also wish for rewards.
  • Approval where you want it. You choose which chores an adult approves, and whether your child sends a photo.

The free plan covers one child and five active chores. New families with one child get 14 days of Kroni Family free, with no card.

When Goally may fit better

  • You want a separate device for your child, with no web browser and apps you switch on and off.
  • Learning apps, video classes or a talker app matter to you.
  • Your child is in Goally's listed age range of 2 to 8.

When Kroni may fit better

  • You would rather not buy a new device.
  • Chores should connect to allowance or to rewards your family decides.
  • Several children share one tablet. Kroni opens on an overview of how many chores each child has left, and it can stay up in the kitchen with the screen on from 6 am to 9 pm, see a digital chore chart on the family tablet.

Switching from Goally

  1. Start small. Kroni can't import routines from Goally. Pick one routine and write two to four short steps.
  2. Set a generous countdown, or leave it out. It is an estimate, not a deadline.
  3. Decide what a chore is worth. Dollars, points or nothing.
  4. Talk after a week. Adjust what isn't working.
  5. If you pay for Goally Apps, remember to cancel it with Goally.
