Kroni

Routines for kids with ADHD or autism, one step at a time

Clear steps, a countdown they can see and the chore read aloud. How Kroni supports routines at home, with no medical promises.

Kroni is a chore and allowance app. It doesn't treat ADHD or autism, and we make no promises about symptoms. What it can do is show your child one chore at a time, with short steps you write yourself, a countdown they can see and a button that reads the chore out loud. Below are the features that do that, and a simple week to try.

What makes a routine easier to follow

No routine fits every child with the same diagnosis. What works is something you find out together with your child. The NHS guidance on ADHD in children lists a few adjustments that can help at home and at school:

  • clear and simple instructions, one at a time
  • tasks split into 15 to 20 minute slots, with a break in between
  • a to-do list somewhere easy to see
  • praise when something goes well, or a reward chart

That guidance does not assess Kroni. But the ideas are easy to find in the app: one chore at a time, short steps, a visible list and a reward you agree on yourselves. There is more in ADHD and chores at home: a practical checklist.

One chore at a time

Focus mode shows your child a single chore. You can add up to eight short steps, like "Pull the duvet up" and "Put the pillow back", and your child ticks them off one at a time. The order isn't locked. For a ready-made example with six steps and minutes for each, see morning routine for kids.

If you like, the chore gets a countdown from 1 to 120 minutes. When time is up, Kroni asks how it's going. The chore is not marked as failed, and nothing is taken away. With Not now your child sets the chore aside and sees the next one, and with Show all they see the whole list for today again. If they get stuck, there is an I need help button. Within the help hours you have chosen, Kroni sends you a notification, for up to three chores a day. Otherwise your child is told to go and ask a grown-up.

Each chore can also have an icon, and you can pick a time of day. Your child then sees the morning chores first, then midday and evening. Turn on Only what is due now, and Today and focus mode show only the chores for this time of day: morning until 12:00, midday until 17:00, then evening. Chores with no time of day, must-dos and late chores always show. How the view works in detail: focus mode, one chore at a time.

Read aloud for kids who don't read yet

Turn on Read aloud for a child and they get a speaker button. It reads the chore and its steps in focus mode, and the rewards with their prices. Kroni uses the voice built into your child's device. If the device has no voice for their language, the button stays hidden.

It helps the youngest, and kids who take in an instruction they hear more easily than one they read. More on the setup: chores for kids who can't read yet.

One screen for the whole family

Your child doesn't need a phone. When the kids share one phone or tablet, Kroni opens on an overview of how many chores each child has left, and each child taps into their own list. The parent side is locked once you hand the device over. See a digital chore chart on the family tablet for how it looks.

Rewards can be time, like "20 minutes of Lego" or "one episode". A timed reward gets a countdown from 5 minutes to 8 hours, so everyone can see how much is left.

Kroni has high contrast, larger text and screen reader support, in English, Norwegian, Swedish and Danish. With Calm mode, celebrations stay still and quiet: no confetti, no bouncing coin and no vibration, and the streak is hidden on Today. Badges stay.

A first week to try

  1. Pick one chore your child knows well, ideally one that often gets put off.
  2. Write two to four short steps. A step is one action, not a whole instruction.
  3. Set a generous countdown, or leave it out. It's an estimate, not a deadline.
  4. Agree on the reward together, or keep the chore unpaid. Points or stickers work just as well as dollars in the app.
  5. Talk about it after three days. Did the steps help? Was the time too short? Adjust.

If a day gets too much, skip the chore or give your child a day off. Nothing counts as missed. If you prefer paper, there is a printable chore chart.

What Kroni is not

Kroni is not a treatment, and it was not made by health professionals. We have no clinical evidence that Kroni helps children with ADHD or autism more than a paper list does. A growing balance is a feature of the app, not a sign that your child is doing better.

Kroni doesn't block other apps and doesn't transfer money. An adult follows up, approves where you have chosen that, and handles any payout outside the app. If you have a plan from school or a health service, let it decide which chores and rewards you add. For more on predictable rewards, read rewards for kids with special needs.

Frequently asked questions

Can Kroni treat ADHD?
No. Kroni is a chore and allowance app. We have no clinical evidence that it treats ADHD or autism, or that it improves symptoms. Talk to your child's healthcare or school team about the support they need.
Does my child need a phone?
No. Your child can use your phone, a tablet the family shares, or a web browser. They need no email address or account of their own. If you later want to connect their own phone, you do it with a code.
Can we use points instead of money?
Yes. For each child you pick dollars, another currency, or points, stars or stickers. Kroni never moves real money, and a chore doesn't have to earn anything at all.
What if today is a hard day?
Make the chore smaller, do it together, or skip it. You can skip one chore today or give your child a day off, planned up to 60 days ahead. Nothing counts as missed, and their streak stays safe.
