Hair accessories: separate elastics, clips and headbands
By Erik Nilsen · Kroni2 min read
A hair-accessory box becomes awkward when one elastic pulls four clips out with it. Arrange the contents by how you pick them up: soft elastics in one section, clips in another and headbands somewhere that fits their shape. Start with the accessories your child actually uses, rather than everything stored in the bathroom.
Empty one collection onto a table
Choose a clean, dry surface and take out the contents of one box. Accessories currently being worn are outside this job. Separate elastics from clips without pulling hard on anything tangled together. Put those tangles aside for help.
Group complete accessories together. A broken elastic or a clip that will not close belongs in a small place for an adult to review. The child does not have to decide what should be discarded. Anything needing cleaning follows your household's agreed method before returning to the box.
Make the spaces fit the objects
A shallow section can keep elastics together. Clips should sit where one can be picked up without digging through the elastics. Do not squeeze headbands into the same compartment; give them a wider space where they can lie or stand in the way you already store them.
Use a divider or container you already have. A small bowl inside a drawer may be enough. An arrangement with lots of new containers is not particularly useful if the child cannot remember which one to use.
Nora puts her everyday elastics at the front, two large headbands beside them and decorative clips in their own small section. She picks up one elastic and returns it. Nothing else comes out with it, and the drawer closes without hitting the headbands.
When the collection grows
If a section becomes so full that you must press everything down, make a separate labelled reserve collection with an adult. Avoid hiding a few random accessories behind the others.
The job is finished when every group has a home, items needing a decision have been handed over and one elastic can be taken out and returned easily. Describe that in Kroni as “Arrange my hair accessories”. Nobody needs to put their hair up to demonstrate that the box works.
