Half price on the cheaper item is not half price on the entire purchase

An offer reducing the cheaper of two items uses only that item's price as its discount base. Your child must identify the cheaper item first. The advertised percentage does not automatically apply to both.
Find the cheaper price before halving
In a hypothetical example, your child wants two optional items costing 80 and 20 units. The practice rule gives 50 per cent off the cheaper one when these two are bought together. The arbitrary prices and rule are invented.
The cheaper item costs 20. Its discount is 20 × 0.50 = 10 units. The final payment becomes 80 + 20 − 10 = 90. Your child pays 80 for the expensive item and 10 for the cheaper one.
Halving the original combined 100 would produce 50, but the offer does not reduce the entire basket by 50 per cent. The discount of 10 is only 10 / 100 = 10 per cent of the full item subtotal.
Check which item the rule selects
A practical snag is halving 80 because the larger price is more noticeable. Put both prices in ascending order and highlight 20 as the discount base.
If both items instead cost 20 each, the discount would still be 10 and the total 30. It would then represent 10 / 40 = 25 per cent of the whole purchase. The same offer percentage can therefore produce different overall discount shares.
Check actual terms, especially eligible pairings and how many times an offer applies. This exercise covers only the two stated items rather than a larger basket.
Your child still needs a final price within their available money. A budget of 85 cannot cover 90 despite the cheaper item being halved.
Ask your family: “Which price receives the discount, and what do we pay for the entire purchase?”
Carry the calculation into your family agreement
Kroni can keep track of your child's virtual balance. The app does not transfer money, so any actual purchase is paid for outside it. Agree on what you will record, then check the amount with your child afterwards. Do not deduct a possible cost as though the purchase had already happened. Read about allowance in Kroni.
