Money set aside to give: collected does not mean delivered
By Erik Nilsen · Kroni2 min read
If your child voluntarily puts small amounts aside to give later, keep two figures: money still set aside and money actually delivered. Do not describe a planned gift as completed merely because it appears in a separate record.
Follow the pot until delivery
In a hypothetical example, your child chooses to set aside 3 units each time they receive allowance. The family agrees to help deliver the gift when the pot reaches at least 10. These arbitrary figures and the threshold are the family's own plan rather than a recipient's requirement.
After the first contribution the pot is 3, then 6 after the second and 9 after the third. Nothing has been delivered at those stages. After the fourth it reaches 12. The family can then complete the agreed gift of 12 and write “delivered: 12; still set aside: 0”.
After another contribution of 3, cumulative contributions across the whole period total 15. However, only 12 were delivered and 3 await delivery. Check that 12 + 3 = 15.
Separate history from the current pot
A practical snag is recording 15 as delivered because five contributions appear. Look for the actual handover or payment outside the record. Contributing to the pot and delivering it are different events.
If the family instead delivers only 10 from the first 12, 2 must remain. After the next contribution of 3, the pot becomes 5 while delivered money remains 10. Do not reset the pot without showing where the remainder went.
Giving is voluntary in this exercise. Your family can revise the plan or wait before giving. Money already delivered and money merely set aside must still be described accurately.
Ask your family: “How much still waits with us, and how much has actually been passed on?”
Separate recording from actual payment
Kroni can keep track using a virtual balance but does not transfer money to a cause. If you use the balance to record your child's agreement, clarify the amount and timing together. Any actual gift is arranged outside the app. Do not describe a virtual entry as money the recipient has already received. Read about allowance in Kroni.
