Put swimwear away as complete, recognisable sets
By Erik Nilsen · Kroni2 min read
A swimming top in one drawer and its matching bottom in another basket can each look tidy. The swimwear will still be difficult to find next time. Start this job after everything has been washed and dried completely using your normal routine. The aim is a complete, recognisable set that the child can retrieve without searching several rooms.
Agree what belongs in one set
Use one swimwear set as an example. It may be a single swimsuit or pair of shorts. It may consist of two garments. A swimming cap might belong with it, while goggles follow their usual separate storage routine. Do not include every item you own simply because it is used in water.
Write or draw a small contents note. “Blue top and blue bottom” is clearer than “swimming things”. The child can compare the pieces on the table with that note. Any garment that still feels damp returns to its drying place and is not packed among the dry pieces.
Make a package you can open easily
Put the pieces together without tight knots or lots of little bags. Use the agreed drawer space or an existing bag suitable for your storage arrangement. Leave a recognisable feature visible so that you can distinguish one set from another without opening everything.
Amina has a green swimsuit and a blue two-piece set. The swimsuit has its own space. The blue top goes together with the blue bottom and a simple contents note. She takes out the blue bundle, sees both garments and returns it without moving the green swimsuit.
When one piece is missing
Put the piece you have in a clear waiting place, with a note naming the missing item. Check the agreed drying area or clean-laundry basket once. If the other piece is not there, give an adult a specific message. A partial set should not look like a complete one.
Finished means dry pieces are together, missing items are visible and the right set can be retrieved with one simple check. Use “Put clean swimwear away” in Kroni. A later swimming trip is outside this storage job.
