T-shirts in a drawer: a simple fold with a visible design
By Erik Nilsen · Kroni2 min read
T-shirts in a tall stack often need unfolding before a child finds the design they want. A low row with visible identifying features makes choosing easier. The child can arrange their own clean T-shirts in one drawer and test whether the fold works in ordinary use.
Start with one shirt rather than the entire wardrobe. Let the child choose a useful feature: a design, colour or familiar border.
Make one trial package
Lay the shirt front down on a table. Bring sleeves and sides towards the middle until its width fits the drawer's height if shirts will stand upright. Fold the bottom upwards in simple steps until the package fits the depth.
Turn the package over and inspect the visible feature. Adjust one fold if the design is completely hidden. The goal is recognition rather than identical millimetres on every shirt.
Try a short row
Fold two or three shirts in the same simple way and stand them alongside each other. Take the middle one and return it. If neighbours collapse completely, an existing shallow box can support the row.
Leave room for a hand. A drawer packed so tightly that every shirt must be pushed in is difficult to maintain. Put fewer shirts in the daily row and agree a spare space if needed.
An example with six shirts
Lars first folds three shirts, leaving a strip of the design visible at the top. A little box supports the row. He then adds three more. He finds his football shirt without opening every package and replaces it. The drawer closes without catching the tops.
If the child prefers a flat stack
Use that if it works better. Make two low stacks with visible features and try the same removal test. Storage should help the child manage clothes rather than require one particular folding technique.
Finished means shirts are recognisable, one can be taken without emptying the rest and the drawer closes easily. Use this final check in Kroni. Other kinds of clean clothes remain outside the task even when they also need putting away.
