Dress-up accessories: return large pieces after play
By Erik Nilsen · Kroni2 min read
A cape, hat and waistcoat can end up in one heap after dress-up play. Next time, the child must lift the heap to find the hat. Return large, familiar pieces from one finished session, while an adult reviews loose small parts. The aim is accessible storage without starting an inspection of every costume.
Preserve a familiar combination
The child identifies what belongs to today's outfit. Anything still used in an ongoing scene retains its agreed project place. Other pieces gather on a clean surface. Items belonging to a sibling or adult return to their known owner.
Separate clothing from rigid props. A hat that holds its shape may need its own space, while a soft waistcoat follows your usual agreed fold. Avoid pushing everything into one basket to hide the contents.
Return things without making new knots
Use existing hooks, shelves or baskets already assigned to dressing up. Fold a cape loosely according to your arrangement instead of tying it around other garments. Keep familiar large pieces from the same outfit near one another so they can be found again.
The adult reviews little loose accessories and damaged pieces. The child hands them over with a specific message. They do not have to try every fastening on their body or repair anything to finish this storage task.
Astrid returns a pirate outfit. The waistcoat folds into its basket and the hat gets its own shelf space. A large familiar bag rests beside the waistcoat. A loose decorative part goes to an adult. Astrid can retrieve the hat without pulling the waistcoat along or emptying the basket.
When an outfit is missing a piece
Note it beside the agreed space, for example “The hat is not here”. Search only today's play area. If the piece is not found, report it instead of filling the space with a random accessory from another group.
Finished means today's large pieces in their correct homes, review items handed over and one piece easy to retrieve. “Return dress-up accessories” in Kroni can finish this way. The child does not have to model the whole outfit or discard a costume.
