Spare name labels: one case for the correct sheet
By Erik Nilsen · Kroni2 min read
Unused name labels often end up in a kitchen drawer, a school bag and a bag of clothes. When something needs a label, nobody knows where the correct sheet is. This task brings spare sheets together in one agreed home. Labelling clothing or equipment happens later, following the labels' instructions.
Search only the agreed places
Look in locations an adult has chosen beforehand. The child does not have to search private papers or empty every drawer. Put sheets on a clean, dry surface, keeping their backing paper. Separate full or partly used sheets from empty ones, checking for tiny labels before calling a sheet empty.
Loose labels already peeled off need their own decision. Avoid sticking them randomly on furniture or placing sticky sides against spare sheets. The child does not need to try a label on a garment to show that sorting works.
Keep different names separate
An adult, or a child who recognises the names, checks which group each sheet belongs in. Use an existing case or flat folder with a separate section for each name. If a name is unclear, put that sheet aside and ask instead of guessing.
Label the case's fixed home, for example “Spare name labels”. The case should close normally and open without sheets falling out. Partly used sheets can stay at the front, making the remaining labels visible.
Tiril gathers two sheets bearing her name and one bearing her younger brother's. Her sheets go in the front section and his in the back. The case returns to its agreed drawer. She can find her own sheet without peeling a label or mixing the names.
Show the result without showing names
If your household uses a photo to document completion, the closed case and cleared space can show the result. Name sheets do not have to appear open in the image. A sheet belonging to an unfamiliar person is handed to an adult.
Finished means names separated, backing retained and one known spare location. “Gather the spare name labels” in Kroni ends with retrieving the correct sheet and returning it.
